Become a Coach
Qualifications
Head coaches will ideally have a minimum of two years coaching experience as a head coach in a recreational or club (select) organization.
Head coaches are required to possess a USSF coaching license as noted below and agree to participate in annual continuing education coaches programs. (See specific licensing requirements below.)
FC Storm coaches are expected to adhere to the following principles:
- Embrace and model the coaching philosophy and standards of FC Storm
- Focus on player development with a strong foundation on basic ball skills
- Instruct with positive reinforcement/encouragement over criticism
- Promote teamwork, passing and possession over individual play
- Encourage player creativity
- Keep winning and achievement in proper perspective
- Create and maintain positive and open relationships with parents
- Communicate effectively with parents and FC Storm leadership

Before First Season of Coaching Begins

By the End of the First Season of Coaching
Online grassroots course that corresponds to the age you are coaching:
U9 and U10 7 v 7
U11 and U12 9 v 9
U13 and older 11 v 11
By the End of the First Full Year of Coaching
In-Person grassroots course that corresponds to the age you are coaching:
U9 and U10 7 v 7
U11 and U12 9 v 9
U13 and older 11 v 11
By the End of the Second Full Year of Coaching
11 v 11 in-person grassroots course to meet the Prerequisites for the D License.
Prerequisites for the D License – 11 v 11 in-person grassroots course in addition to one other in-person grassroots course (7 v 7 or 9 v 9).
By the end of the Third Full Year of Coaching
(or in the first year of coaching U13)
D License
NSCAA Goalkeeper Level 1 diploma (recommended for U10 and older teams)
On-Going
Coaches are expected to engage in at least one continuing education opportunity each year.
Requirements may be waived by the Club based on other training and/or experience considerations

Weather Policy
Upon seeing lightning, the fields are to be cleared immediately. NO exceptions!
A lightening detector is located at Phillips Park. One long blast indicates lightning has been detected in the area. It is possible lightning will be seen before the detector goes off. Upon hearing a lightning detection siren (long blast), fields are to be cleared immediately. No exceptions!
The lightning detector will give 3 long blasts to indicate all clear.
Regardless of how far you estimate thunder or lightning to be from the field area, coaches and trainers are to clear all team personnel from the field area and ensure they are under a shelter or in a vehicle for safety. There must be 30 minutes without thunder or lightning before players/parents/coaches may return to the fields. There are no exceptions; the safety of our club members is the top priority for FC Storm.
Failure to follow this policy could jeopardize a coach’s good standing with FC Storm.
FC Storm requires referees to wait 30 minutes after hearing thunder, seeing lightning or after a lightning detector goes off before making a decision to resume play.
Lindsay's Law
As you may have heard, there has been a law passed in Ohio, Lindsay’s Law, that requires all youth athletes, parents/guardians, and coaches to annually complete a set of requirements prior to participating in any organized sports activity.
In accordance to Senate Bill 252, all members must follow and adhere to the Sudden Cardiac Arrest in Youth Athletes Law (Lindsay’s Law).
